Charles' Party Trick (Original Work/The Valley Of Dragons)
Title: Charles' Party Trick
Prompt: magician
Fandom: Original Work/The Valley Of Dragons
Characters: Charles Cromwell, Cecilia Llywellyn, Gareth Sieghart
Summary: On the subject of books.
'It's the one Jane Austen book I haven't read,' Cecilia said. 'I don't know how it's always escaped me.'
'You should read it. It was one of Romano's favourite books,' Charles replied. He flicked his wrist and the book was in his hand. 'This is from the library, so just remember to put it back when you're done.'
'What? Was it in your room?' Gareth said incredulously.
'Didn't I just say it's from the library?'
'Then how did you do that?'
'A simple summoning spell. Don't you know how to do that yet, Gareth?' Charles said sweetly. 'If you know where something is -'
'That's what I'm asking! How do you know exactly where that book is - I mean, the library is organised, but to envision its exact shelf and position relative to all the other books there ...'
'I've memorised the system. I did that when I was Romano's secretary, too,' Charles said to Cecilia. 'So I could get any file he needed at any moment. Then computers came into fashion and I wasn't needed anymore.'
'What a shame!' Cecilia said sympathetically.
'Yes, all my abilities of memorisation are good for now is stumping my grandson.'
'Shut up,' Gareth muttered with a roll of his eyes. Who knew Charles was such a goddamn showoff?
