Frey must have thought that she was being cheeky by sneaking out through her own door instead of the castle main entrance. Just who did she think Ventuswill was? Ventuswill spread her huge feathered wings, rose above the castle, then in one sweeping movement, came down in the courtyard with a thump, her tail landing in front of the city gates. Frey, running as fast as she could, fell backwards with a squeak.

'Don't think I don't know where you're going!' Ventuswill shrieked. 'Why do you keep trying to go to Rune Prana, you idiot? You nearly lost your life a hundred times to bring me back, and now I'm here, so why are you still trying to go?'

Despite everything that had happened, right in front of King Viktor's nose, Eins soon realised that he was still in the running for the throne. It was not his confidence in his abilities that told him so, but his observations of King Viktor, who remained as open as a book to his eldest son. Eins shook his head at the discovery. The only reason for this was that his brothers were still too green to hope to be king, not because he was any more suited to leadership than he.

At least, this was Ein's instinctive response. He had already come to the decision to accept the position of king for a short while, then defer to one of his brothers, and he still saw it as the best course of action for the good of the kingdom. As time went on, the hours and days to the appointed time of King Viktor's announcement, Eins fell into another realisation: he was at peace.

His dream was no longer to become king, after all. He could only hope that, when the time came, Ernst would understand.
