I was in such agonies while playing this game that it might seem I really hated it, and in fact, I felt as if I didn't like it, that I just wanted to finish it so that I could see the ending, which I hoped would be a happy one. It was only when I finished and got the ending I so craved that I realised I didn't hate this game. I love this game! But playing the game was so painful for me at first because I immediately realised that Hades was so torn up, in so much pain, throughout the main story, that it was unbearable.

I've decided to have two distinct tags for the fandoms (uh ... yeah, we'll go with fandoms) I'm writing Hades/Persephone in, but have Hades/Persephone as its own tag so that they can all be under one thing. The Hades/Persephone of the Hades video game is different enough from the classic Hades/Persephone that I feel it's really warranted.

Spoilers for the game ahead:

Titling this blog like a bad YouTube video essay because clickbait is what gets the kids going these days ✌️

There's a throwaway line in one of the Discworld books (yeah, shocking that I don't remember which) where Vetinari is reading a piece of sheet music and the narration notes that he finds the idea of an orchestra performing a piece of music disgusting due to all the human-ness involved in plucking strings and blowing horns and things like that. This is also the point that I realise that almost every single blog entry I've put on this journal is about classical music. It's like my only actual fandom at this point.

Anyway, the point of this character trait is that Vetinari is a highly calculating person whose intelligence surpasses the need to have any outside contribution in order to process a piece of information such as a score. Vetinari has other 'Extreme Intelligence' traits like his hatred of mimes because they don't speak, his prowess in chess and chess-like games, and the fact that he has thirteen degrees or whatever. For the most part, they're all just narrative tools that describe the nature of his character.

But there are some Vetinari scenes and Vetinari traits that I can't accept. Tell me that it's because I have an idealised version of Vetinari in my head that I would dismiss canon evidence to the contrary. Go on. @ me.

In the case of Vetinari's disdain for performed music, however, I believe that this trait is presented in a misunderstanding of classical music on the author's part. First, allow me to explain the misunderstanding that I believe has occurred.

The first piece of music that ever made me cry. I listen to this whenever I want to sink into another world without thinking about anything else. As of late, listening to this specific performance makes me think of Gergiev's unfair termination because of the war in Ukraine. I'm sure I would never be able to understand, to feel through my heart and soul, the terror of war and what it takes away from everyone, even those not directly involved, if I hadn't heard this performance. Now this gives me a melancholy feeling too, one deeper than that of the appreciation of music.

At this moment in time, it looks to be that this will be a feeling that lasts forever. It would be good if I ever again had the hope of seeing Gergiev perform live, but perhaps there would be a goodness in it if I didn't, too.

I have to talk about this. I simply must, it's so. good. Everything about this is just - oh my God. *flails*

Start with the summary. Naturally, it's the first thing I see when it pops up in my inbox. And I see this line:

When he's brought to a strange country to be married to the king's uncle ...

A wealth of promise! I shouldn't have hoped, of course, but I was most ready to embrace whatever came ahead.

It was 3 in the morning. I woke up for this. )

There are so many ways to say 'I want to fall in love' in an aquatic style, but they decided to just tack on the word 'AQUARIUM' on the end haha. I do love the song though, and the introduction captured me from the very beginning. They have beautiful costumes and the aquarium backdrop is really good.

But :( )
